Five Fun Facts About Kristin Harmel:

1. I wanted to be a rock star but realized by the age of nine that I couldn't actually sing, which I figured might be an obstacle. Sadly, this was before the days of American Idol, where I could have humiliated myself on national television.

2. My favorite place to write is in Paris, where I lived a few years ago. I could see the Eiffel Tower from my apartment's living-room window! I barely spoke a word of French then, but I've been taking French classes in the U.S. for the past two years.

3. My first job was at a minor league baseball stadium, where I ran all the on-field promotions, bringing fans onto the field between innings to do things like a dizzy bat race, a mascot race and a water balloon toss. I'm still a big baseball fan, although I no longer run around on the field like a madwoman!

4. I wrote my first "book" when I was 6. It was handwritten, stapled together and illustrated, and it was about the Bobbsey Twins going to Ohio (where I lived at the time) to solve the theft of my dad's "solid gold tuxedo." For the record, my dad does not have a solid gold tuxedo in real life!

5. I am only 5 feet tall! Good thing I'm obsessed with shoes; those high heels come in handy!
